If you've been checking in, you can see that I've neglected to update the site in quite awhile. I will try to put some things up over the next few weeks. Nonetheless, I expect the updates to be quite sparse for the foreseeable future. There ought to be more going on at my academic home page, which I have just put up (see link above). 12/8/06 Last minute gig update. I will be playing piano tonight behind singer, trombonist, and good friend Elizabeth Dotson-Westphalen over at the Liberty Heights Tap Room in Red Hook. I am told that the instrument I will be using once belonged to Hall and Oates. Some standards, some pop, and some singer/songwriterish stuff as well. 9 PM. Details and directions here. 10/17/06 All tracks from the Mainframe album are now available at the iTunes Music Store. If you don't have the iTunes software, of course, you won't be able to access them. The tracks should also be available from a wide range of other digital distributors soon, including Rhapsody and Napster. When this happens, I will post announcements. As always, hard copies of the album can be purchased on CD Baby. 10/8/06 Last Tuesday, October 3, a cut from the new Mainframe album was used on Marketplace, a daily business news show that airs on public radio stations around the country and has a weekly listenership of almost 8 million! You can listen to that edition of the show here. The Mainframe cut can be heard towards the end of the show, between the 26th and 27th minute. My thanks go to the people at Marketplace for using it. 9/29/06 Yet another Agora update. In addition to performing for the very last show on Sunday, I will be in the show tonight (Friday) and Saturday. If you don't know what I'm talking about, see the two entries below. Hope to see you! 9/28/06 We had so much fun last night that the folks at Agora II have asked me back for their very last performance on Sunday (which was just added to the schedule). 8 PM at McCarren Pool in Greenpoint. For a few more details, and a link to ticket info, see the entry below. Come out and support this bizarre and amazing event! 9/25/06 This Wednesday, 9/27, at 8 PM, I'll be performing in Agora II out at the McCarren Pool in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. McCarren Pool is an enormous, graffiti-covered municipal pool that has been drained for several decades and has, in recent times, been converted into a performance space. Agora II is the second incarnation (the first was held last year) of an extremely ambitious dance and sound production which seeks to make use of the unusual physical and acoustic features of the space. I'm only going to be making a brief appearance in the performance (involving Stevie Wonder, a disco ball, white pants, and throngs of dancers), but both the space and the show are quite unique, and ought to be seen if you can make it out. For tickets, go here, and use the discount code "Phil" to save 25%. 9/13/06 I have
recently made arrangements for online distribution of all tracks from
the Mainframe album, which should soon become
available on iTunes and other online outlets. Check back for an
update on this.
9/9/06 After
astounding feats of procrastination, a few false starts, and a
lot of hard work, I have finally released the full-length
debut album of my band, Mainframe. Although I'm somewhat
embarassed by how long this process has taken (years), I'm excited
nonetheless. For details about the album, including a few
audio clips and purchase information, go here.
9/7/06 Thanks for dropping
in! Although I have had a crude version of this up for some time
now - which a few of you may have visited - I have now fully expanded
and renovated the site, and it is officially ready to go. As I
make updates, they will be posted on this page. I
plan
to use this space primarily as a forum to promote my various
and sporadic musical endeavors. But my personal and academic
interests will receive a bit of attention as well. I expect that
the site will evolve significantly over time, and welcome comments on
it. You can drop me a line here.
